As it enters the brain, the visual signal transmitted by the retina is broken down along two main dimensions: Spatial Frequency (SF) and Orientation. The primary visual processing (of the SF and Orientation) of the face stimulus provides the building blocks of human face perception. How is efficient face perception supported by these primary visual processing stages?
